->November General Election FAQ's

Please read the following FAQ's regarding the mid-term General Election on Tuesday, November 3rd, 2026.

November General Election FAQ’s

  • Do I have to request a ballot for this election?

No.  All active registered voters will be receiving a ballot in the mail from the Vermont Secretary of State’s Office.

  • Should I go to the town clerk’s office to pick up a ballot anyway?

No. No need to come to the clerk’s office to pick up a ballot. You will use the one mailed to you.  THIS IS YOUR BALLOT. My supply is Very Limited for people who register to vote After 9/5/26 and By 11/3/26.

  • When will my ballot arrive?

The roll-out starts on 9/21 through 10/1.  Look for it sometime between September 21st and October 9th.  (ballpark estimate).    Well in advance of 11/3.

  • What if I’m leaving the state for travel before it arrives?

Please wait until the day or so before you leave.  If the mailed ballot hasn’t arrived yet, come by the office, you will sign an affidavit of no ballot received, and you can vote before you go.  This shouldn’t be more than a handful of people.

  • What if I goof when marking my early ballot at home?

Bring in the one you goofed on for a replacement ballot. Just like at the polls, you are entitled to the three-strike rule.

  • What do I do with a ballot that came for my Adult Children who don't live here anymore?

Please return them to me. I can use the ballot and envelopes as extras for people who continue to register between now and 11/3.  I can also use this information to move them into a Challenged state until they                email me to request removal from the Williston Voter Checklist.   (I need a simple email from the voter, so please pass my email along to them:   smason@willistonvt.org)

  • What if the post office doesn't deliver my ballot?
  • Election mail takes precedent over everything else.  I have full confidence the post office will have every available driver out and about once ballots arrive at the post office.   There may be the occasional one-off that doesn't make it and those few voters should contact me directly.

  • How should I return my ballot?

Put your voted ballot in the “Voted Ballot Envelope” provided in your packet.  Then drop it off in the drive-up ballot return box located at the west end of the town hall rear parking lot.  If you are someone who does           not drive and must use the mail for return, the recommendation is to mail it by October 16th.    Anyone can return it for you if you have a family member, neighbor or friend returning theirs.

  • Can I have my ballot back if I change my mind after I’ve turned it in to the clerk?

No.  Turning your ballot into the clerk, in person, by mail, or via the drop-box, is considered the same as placing it in the tabulator. You may not change your mind and have it back.

  • Where is the polling place for in-person voting?

The polling location for all of Williston is the National Guard Armory at 7846 Williston Road.   In the village, across from Williston Central School and the library.

  • What are the hours for day-of voting?

Voting at the Armory on Tuesday, November 3rd, 2026, is from 7am-7pm. Bring your ballot with you.  Fill it in beforehand or do it when you get there. No need to bring all the envelopes.

**Please remember, it takes a village to make election day go smoothly, safely, and comfortably for everyone.  Please use the early ballot and return it before 11/3.  The Armory and the parking lots cannot hold 7,000 people on one day, so voting early on one's own timeline is key to the overall process going as planned.  Thank You so much for your help and cooperation. Sarah Mason, Williston Town Clerk.   smason@willistonvt.org

*The library bond Article and the Justice of the Peace race are ON THE BACK of the ballot you will be receiving.
