Position Objectives

Are you concerned about the impacts of climate change and rising energy bills, but are not sure what to do about it? Join the Williston Energy Committee! The Energy Committee is a group of enthusiastic Williston residents who are dedicated to transforming the way Williston uses and produces energy while enhancing the health and vigor of the Town’s local economy and long-term affordability for residents.

The Energy Committee is seeking to fill one open position on the seven member committee. This position is for an unexpired 3-year term through June 30, 2027.  There has never been a more exciting and opportune time to be working on climate and energy issues! Over the coming year, the Energy Committee will be developing plans to leverage the multitude of funding available for renewable energy projects, energy efficiency and energy education projects for the benefit of the Williston community and beyond. For this effort, to take advantage of every opportunity, we need another hand on deck!


Duties and Responsibilities

The Town Energy Committee was established by the Selectboard in October 2021. The Committee is responsible for advising the Planning Commission concerning energy policy for land use and taking an active lead in delivering community engagement and education regarding energy efficiency and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions for residents and businesses. 

The Committee will consist of 5-7 members serving three-year terms. In establishing the committee the initial appointees will have staggered term lengths of one to three years. All members of the committee must be Williston residents. 

The Energy Committee shall have the duties and responsibilities as listed below, which may be revised or amended from time to time by the Selectboard.  The Town Manager retains authority over administrative matters relating to the Town Energy Plan and any staff or consultants who assist in its implementation, and the Selectboard retains authority on policy issues.

  • At the direction of the Planning Commission serves an advisory function concerning Town energy policy as a component of land use policy.
  • Develops and implements community outreach and education opportunities to provide residents and businesses with resources to assist in reaching goals and objectives identified in the Town Energy Plan to improve energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. 
  • Advise Town Administration on strategies to increase the amount of renewable energy generation in Williston and town programs to offer.
