Boundary Line Adjustment

Please contact Planning staff before filling out the Administrative Boundary Line Adjustment Form, as some BLAs require a Discretionary Permit approved by the Development Review Board.

A boundary line adjustment (BLA) is a revision to revision to property lines between two or more adjacent parcels, and creates no new separate lots or parcels.

In general, a boundary line adjustment is usually reviewed by the Zoning Administrator in the following zoning districts if the total acreage subject to the adjustment meets the following thresholds:

  • Agricultural/Rural Residential Zoning District (ARZD) and outside the sewer service area: less than 80,000 SF (1.84 acres)
  • Agricultural/Rural Residential Zoning District and inside the sewer service area: less than 8,712 SF (0.20 acres)
  • Residential Zoning District (RZD): less than 8,712 SF (0.20 acres)
  • Village Zoning District (VZD):
  • Boundary adjustments that expand the holdings of the town or other public agencies for land conservation purposes may be of any size.

In general, a boundary line adjustment always requires a Discretionary Permit in the following Zoning Districts because there is no minimum lot size or average density:

  • Industrial Zoning District East (IZDE)
  • Industrial Zoning District West (IZDW)
  • Gateway Zoning District North (GZDN)
  • Gateway Zoning District South (GZDS)
  • Gateway Zoning District West (GZDW)
  • Mixed Use Commercial Zoning District (MUCZD)
  • Taft Corners Form-Based Code (TCFBCZD)
