October 9th Community Walk of Jacob Krantz Conservation Area
The Williston Conservation Commission and Winooski Valley Park District are hosting a community walk at the "Jacob Krantz" Conservation Area on October 9 at 4:00 PM. Plan to meet in the gravel parking lot at 483 Mountain View Road. The 29-Acre parcel is located North of Mountain View Road along the Winooski River. It was donated to the Town in 2018 by Peter Jacob and Lloyd Krantz and in keeping with the Open Space Plan, the town seeks to ensure that the site is effectively managed as a conservation park accessible to the public.
A proposal is being considered that would transfer the parcel to the Winooski Valley Park District (WVPD), a regional nonprofit parks agency that has Williston and six other towns as members. Efforts to establish the park over the last few years have been ongoing as the Town and WVPD have struggled to find access to the parcel. Recent help from GlobalFoundries has created a pathway for access to the parcel. Currently, WVPD and GlobalFoundries are working together to finalize a plan to make the access a reality!
Should this transfer happen, WVPD would engage in a project to create access to the park, improve trails, signage, bridges and puncheons – all guided by a Management Plan designed to protect the natural values of the site. Next steps include acquiring permits, planning the layout for the park, and finding a name for the park.
