Williston Planning Department: In addition to the daily flow of permit and certificate applications, staff is currently investigating or pursuing seven zoning violation complaints, including failure to install required landscaping, illegal outdoor lighting, unpermitted and oversize home businesses, and parking out of compliance with site plans. Staff assisted in the drafting of a revised Special Event Ordinance under consideration by the Selectboard. Staff is currently monitoring one appeal of a development approval at the state Environmental Court. Williston Planning is preparing applications for assistance from the Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission (CCRPC) through its FY23 Unified planning Work Program (UPWP).
Other Boards and Committees staffed by Williston Planning: The Development Review Board will reviewDP 21-20, Aldi Supermarket at Wright Avenue as a Pre-Application on January 11. Plans available at this link. The Historic and Architectural Advisory Committee is working with our consultant on new illustrated development standards for the Village Zoning District and planning for public outreach this spring. A staff memo discussing this process can be viewed at this link. The Conservation Commission is working on draft revisions to the Special Wildlife Habitat Area protections contained in Chapter 27 of the Williston Unified Development Bylaw. A link to the draft can be viewed here. The catamount Community Forest Committee has been working on several wildlife habitat enhancement plans. Selectboard: Review of FY 23 Capital and Operating Budgets has begun. Planning Staff wrote a memo for the Manager outlining potential population growth from FY23-FY27 in support of budget review. Memo available at this link. The Selectboard is also considering adding an Energy Coordinator Position to the Planning Department in FY 22 or FY23. The Manager’s memo can be viewed at this link.
Beyond: The Vermont Housing Finance Agency (VHFA) published a report, The State of Residential Development in Vermont in 2021. Building Homes Together has announced a new 5-year plan for housing in Chittenden County. An infographic about Building Homes Together 2.0 can be viewed at this link.
