CEMETERY COMMISSION
MINUTES OF MEETING
August 15, 2024
Meeting held in the Annex Conference Room at 7878 Williston Road, Williston VT. MEMBERS PRESENT: Jack Price, Hazel Winter, Drew Nelson, and Cameron Clark ABSENT: None OTHERS PRESENT: Town Manager Erik Wells and Bea Harvey (former Commissioner) The meeting was called to order at 2:34 p.m. Jack Price shared an inquiry from someone in New York about cleaning their parent’s monument in Deerview Cemetery. Price shared it may be a possibility under a contract being discussed. The draft minutes from the July 18, 2024, meeting were presented. The Commission unanimously approved the minutes. There was no budget update for this meeting. Price reported that Commissioner Shannon Hiltner has chosen to resign as a Commissioner. The vacancy has been posted. Price and Drew Nelson reported regarding monument damage in Chittenden Cemetery, the damage was repaired. No new damage has been reported, although a windstorm caused many branches to fall. Nelson reported that from July 18, 2024, to the present, there have been 5 interments, 2 pending internments, and 2 new lot sales. The Commission discussed a complaint about a monument displacement in East Cemetery. It will be monitored and reviewed further. Plans for monument cleaning at Chittenden Cemetery were discussed. James ‘Woody’ Woodman is available to clean the monuments at a reasonable price. The Commission also discussed recording information on the Winslow monument. Price will contact the Williston Historical Society. Gifted funds are available for general maintenance of monuments at East Cemetery, and Price will arrange the work. Other business included a discussion of a burial that occurred this morning. The Commission’s next meeting will be held September 12, 2024, at 2:30 p.m. at the Annex Conference Room at the Town Annex Building, 7878 Williston Road, Williston, VT. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 3:12 p.m.
